Library
Welcome to the Library
The Chatswood Public School Library plays a central role in supporting students’ learning and fostering a lifelong love of reading.
Each week, all classes attend the library for lessons based on the English Textual Concepts, which support the development of key literacy skills. Students are encouraged to explore a wide range of texts and to select books that match their interests and reading level.
To borrow books, students must have a library bag with their name on it. For K–2 students, a water-resistant library bag is required to protect books from damage in school bags. These bags are available for purchase at the uniform shop.
Borrowing Limits
- Kindergarten: 2 books per week (1 in Semester 1)
- Stage 1: 3 books
- Stage 2: 4 books
- Stage 3: 5 books (including Young Adult titles marked with a yellow dot)
The “Young Adult” collection contains more mature themes, with popular series such as The Hunger Games, The School for Good and Evil, The Kane Chronicles, The Trials of Apollo, and selected manga titles like Dragon Ball.
Languages Collection
Our bilingual books in Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Hindi, and Vietnamese provide opportunities for students to enjoy stories in their home language or learn a new one.
Library Events
Premier’s Reading Challenge
All students participate in the NSW Premier's Reading Challenge each year.
K–2 students complete the challenge at school and receive a certificate in Term 4. Students in Years 3–6 are encouraged to complete the challenge independently.
Special Gold and Platinum certificates are awarded to students who complete the challenge for 4 and 7 years respectively.
Author Visit
Students enjoy visits from Australian authors and illustrators, particularly during Book Week and Education Week in Term 3.
The library also hosts an annual Book Fair, where students can purchase or donate books to help grow our collection.
