Wellbeing at Chatswood Public School

Wellbeing at Chatswood Public School

Understanding Wellbeing:

  • Wellbeing is the overall quality of a person's life, encompassing cognitiveemotionalsocialphysical, and spiritual aspects.
  • At Chatswood Public School, we prioritise the wellbeing of all students, aiming for their holistic health, happiness, success, and positive contribution to school and society.

Our Wellbeing Approach:

  • Focus on character strengths, positive behavior expectations, and circle time as preventive measures.
  • Character Strengths: Emphasis on Growing Strong Minds program, based on positive psychology and 24 scientifically validated character strengths.
  • Integration of character strengths language in various communication modes (reports, awards, conferences) for improved wellbeing.

Positive Behavior for Learning:

  • Evidence-based framework fostering a positive, safe, and supportive learning culture.
  • Benefits include reduced inappropriate behavior, increased instructional time, improved social-emotional wellbeing, positive relationships, and effective teaching practices.

Chatswood Public School's Behavior Expectations:

  • Developed in consultation with students, staff, and parents.

- I care for myself
- I care for others
- I care for the environment

  • Positive behaviors were co-created across all learning spaces, with a mascot design competition enhancing communication of expectations, which was held in 2022 and embedded into all aspects of behaviour communications.

 Circle Time:

  • Restorative practice symbolises equality among participants.
  • Regular circle time builds and maintains peaceful classroom communities, encourages restorative language, and facilitates effective communication.
  • Ideal platform for discussing character strengths, school behavior expectations, and social skills.

Chatswood Public School prioritises the holistic development of every student, fostering a positive and supportive environment for their overall wellbeing.
